CIT-NJ is a county based collaboration of law enforcement
professionals and mental health professionals who are committed to
developing a local system of services that is responsive to individuals
with mental illness, family members and the police officers. The CIT-NJ
model strives to provide law enforcement officers and mental health
professionals with knowledge and skills that allow them to respond to
the individual in psychiatric crisis in a manner that minimizes the
potential for injury. In addition, the CIT-NJ model can be instrumental
in helping to divert the individual with serious mental illness from the
criminal justice system to appropriate mental health treatment. Members of Tri-State's Crisis Response Team have taken the 40 hour
CIT training along side law enforcement and mental health
professionals. If funding is available, Tri-State sends several representative to the annual CIT International conference to keep up-to-date with best practices and re-connect with CIT members from across the United States who have used our services during times of mass tragedy in their local community.
Please contact us if you are a CIT-NJ member and would like to include Tri-State's CIT-NJ K9 Ambassadors in your response, event or for QPR training.
